Principal Scientist/Associate Director, Pharmacology

Blueprint Medicines is a top-tier, publicly-traded (BPMC) Biopharmaceutical Company focused on discovering, developing and commercializing highly-selective kinase inhibitors for genomically defined diseases.  Originally funded by Third Rock Ventures, the company has built a sophisticated genomics platform and a one-of-kind annotated compound collection which is delivering a pipeline of novel therapies.  In just three years, four programs have been established in genomically defined cancers and one program in the rare genetic disease space.

Job description:

Blueprint Medicines is seeking a versatile and enthusiastic pharmacology leader to join a team working to advance genomically targeted therapies into clinical development. This individual will draw upon a strong track record of in vivo pharmacology to support a robust pipeline of oncology and immunotherapy approaches. The ideal candidate is a proven project leader who can influence colleagues via his/her technical knowledge, innovative approaches and strategic thinking. Candidates must be collaborative and enjoy a fast-paced and hands-on research environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic and scientific leadership as part of cross-functional research teams.
  • Design and interpret in vivo efficacy and PK/PD studies, explore novel therapeutic hypotheses, and investigate mechanism of action for candidate small molecules.
  • Direct work with external academic / industry collaborators and with contract research organizations.
  • Oversee a subset of animal care facility activities.
  • Present clearly and succinctly in a variety of internal and external settings.

Qualifications and core competencies:

  • Ph.D. degree in oncology, immunology, pharmacology or a related field with at least 7 years of experience in small molecule drug discovery and development.
  • Deep understanding of in vivo pharmacology and track record of driving research stage programs into the clinic.
  • Experience with animal models of cancer, immune response and/or anti-tumor immunity, including transplantable tumor and genetically-engineered models.
  • Strong scientific writing skills. Experience in preparing regulatory submissions (e.g. IND).
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills including the ability to manage several projects simultaneously.
  • A strong record in mentoring and career development of others.
